Skype coming to Palm

It was only yesterday that I testdrived skype and got amazed by its sound quality and ease of use. The way it gets around firewalls and NATs it’s also pretty amazing (Note to K: I need a link to this tech).

I started thinking about the Pocket PC version and how it could easily start replacing mobile phones once there are more hotspots available. I just thought it was to bad a Palm version didn’t exist. Now even that problem is nearly gone:

Skype coming to Palm next month?
We knew it was coming sooner or later, but the guys behind Skype have let it slip that they’ll have a version of their peer-to-peer VoIP software that’ll work on Palm handhelds ready sometime next month (a version for Pocket PCs came out a few weeks ago). It will probably require some proper WiFi action to work, but we’re hoping that maybe, just maybe, the 1xRTT connection on our Treo will be just enough bandwidth to get this going, especially since Skype is only supposed to need up to 16kbps to get by (and yes, we know that 1xRTT is burstable and all that).

Smaller Factor

What about this really small bluetooth web server running Linux Kernel 2.6? It accepts MMC cards but it should work with external usb hard-drives too.

Think of the possibilities it brings …

The Future?

The future of PDAs?

  • 1 GHz Crusoe Processor
  • 256 MB RAM
  • 30 GB HardDisk
  • Nifty small low power LCD on the back for small tasks like checking for new e-mails

iPod mini

After much speculation the new iPod mini specs are finally out. And forme this is a big disappointment. Why would someone give 249$ for a 4Gb iPod mini when they can get a 15Gb standard iPod for just more 50$.

If only the form factor was really mini. I have to agree with Douglas Bowman on this one, it should have been called the iPod Slightly Smaller. (iPod charts and comparison) .

First rumours talked about a really smaller, 2Gb and 100$ iPod mini. That would have been something.

Nokia Digital Pen

Just came across Nokia’s Digital Pen. It works just as a normal pen but allows you to send any sketch you make to your mobile phone via bluetooth.

Sony PSX unveiled

Sony unveiled today the new Sony PSX that I blogged about recently. Apparently the prices in Japan will be about 620 euros for a 160GB version and 770 euros for the 250 GB version. Expensive, I hope prices drop fast …

Sony’s PSX coming soon

Playstation 2: I think I will finally buy one…

Gizmodo : Sony’s PSX coming soon Besides being able to play games, the PSX will have a TV tuner, a 120GB hard drive, a DVD burner, and be able to double as a digital video recorder.

Through the Solar Looking Glass

An interesting new way of using solar energy.

Wired News: Through the Solar Looking Glass Dyson said a single solar cell will cost about 25 cents. The cells are situated about a square foot apart and will have a “way more than 50 percent” energy-conversion rate, she added.

Pixmania

Pixmania : A nice alternative to Nomatica for buying digital cameras at a decent price in Portugal. My experience with Nomatica was great but it doesn’t hurt to have competition.

It’s here

Optio S: It’s small, it’s beautifull, it’s here.
