Riding the tube
I had to leave my car today in the garage for scheduled maintenance. So I decided that this was the best opportunity to test the brand new Metro do Porto Yelllow line.
I kept a log of how much time it took to get to from there to my work:
- 9:20 - Left the garage on foot
- 9:28 - Arrived at the metro station (8 minutes)
- 9:29 - Bought my ticket
- 9:30 - Inside the train (red line)
- 9:38 - Arrived at Trindade (8 minutes)
- 9:39 - Inside the train (yellow line)
- 9:48 - Arrived at the Polo Universitário station (9 minutes)
- 9:58 - Finished walking all the time Arrived at FEUP (10 minutes)
- 10:02 - In my office (4 minutes)
Statistics:
- Total time: 42 minutes
- Time walking: 22 minutes
- Time in the trains: 17 minutes
- Time waiting for the trains: 2 minutes
Pros:
- Much predictable than going by car.
- You can read while you travel.
- Much cheaper (speccially after the recent gas price scalade).
- You can do some exercise.
Cons:
- In average slower than driving.
- You must do some exercise
- You get wet if it rains.
So, is it worth it? I’m not entirely convinced. But it is definitively a nice alternative.
