Skype coming to Palm

It was only yesterday that I testdrived skype and got amazed by its sound quality and ease of use. The way it gets around firewalls and NATs it’s also pretty amazing (Note to K: I need a link to this tech).

I started thinking about the Pocket PC version and how it could easily start replacing mobile phones once there are more hotspots available. I just thought it was to bad a Palm version didn’t exist. Now even that problem is nearly gone:

Skype coming to Palm next month?
We knew it was coming sooner or later, but the guys behind Skype have let it slip that they’ll have a version of their peer-to-peer VoIP software that’ll work on Palm handhelds ready sometime next month (a version for Pocket PCs came out a few weeks ago). It will probably require some proper WiFi action to work, but we’re hoping that maybe, just maybe, the 1xRTT connection on our Treo will be just enough bandwidth to get this going, especially since Skype is only supposed to need up to 16kbps to get by (and yes, we know that 1xRTT is burstable and all that).
