Copy Protected CDs
A colleague of mine had just bought a new Audio CD and was pissed
off because she didn’t notice that it was a
href="http://www.fatchucks.com/z3.cd.html">copy protected cd
meaning she couldn’t play the cd in her computer.
It took us about 10 minutes to rip it and about 15 minutes to
convince her to ask for a full refund.
On your face record labels!!!
However, the record labels are not “copy-protecting”
CDs to stop hackers, and they know it. They are doing this to
prevent the average, non-technical person from enjoying their fair
use rights. That includes making copies for your personal use,
making mp3s and making compilations of your favorite music on one
CD. This way they can increase their sales when you have to replace
your defective CD more quickly, or have to pay $10 a month to get
their music online, or have to pay twice to get music that plays at
home and at work/in your car/wherever.
