Douglas Bowman interviewed

Eric Meyer interviews Douglas
Bowman from Wired News about
Wired new, table free, site redesign. Amongst other things he talks
about something that as bothering me from sometime:

Floats had a few disadvantages from my perspective. One
was the required order of content within generic markup. For Wired
News, the center (or main) column usually contains the most
important content for each page. I wanted center column content to
appear first in browsers that got the un-styled version. With
floats, either the left column or the right column always had to be
drawn first. For sites that rely on a left or right column for
primary navigation, this content order requirement of float usage
may produce desired and advantageous behavior.

I think this problem will only be solved when XSL transformations
are decently supported by the majority of the browsers.

The Secret Life of Markup

has this great article about markups and the web. The article ends
with a excelent example of the power of content and design
separation:

Venkman

The new JavaScript Debugger for Netscape 7.0 explained in this href="http://devedge.netscape.com/">Devedge article.
Mozilla/Netscape, being developer friendly browsers, will
eventually make developers start working with these platforms in
mind. And hopefully this will change the way standards are used
around the web.

Getty Images sells digital images from their extensive image
database. What amazed me was their powerfull search engine based on
human categorization. Try to search for stuff like ‘two dogs
playing’.

Bali is not the US

I’m astonished at the complete lack of Bali related weblog entries
in the daypop top 40. The Bali terrorist act is already called by
many the Australian 9/11 but the web just seems to be ignoring it.
